Farewell, August

Lots of favorite moments this week, as August wraps up and we head into September! I'm linking up with Friday's Fave Five to share some late summer faves.

Dan and I went to a community gathering last weekend, a fundraiser for our town's Open Space Foundation. Local brewers came to share their wares, along with food trucks. There were educational booths that featured information on wildlife in the area, and some hands-on activities for the kids along with root beer floats. It was a gorgeous evening and the whole affair was located within walking distance of our house.

On Sunday, we took the grandkids to the Butterfly Pavilion, which is a zoo for invertebrates. They got to hold Rosie the tarantula and each earned a sticker for being so brave! They petted starfish and played with grubs (eeew!) and then we went into the botanical area where hundreds of butterflies flitted around. As gorgeous as the butterflies were -- and there were dozens of different kinds -- the kids were most impressed with the turtle in this area.

Dan and I spent Monday doing a lot of chores around the house. With his work schedule, our weekdays often feel like weekends. We decided to have our big meal at noon, and I went to our favorite deli and picked up sandwiches and cream sodas, which we enjoyed outside on the deck, under the table umbrella. It is already feeling like September and the day was sunny but just cool enough to enjoy the outdoors.

This is the last full week of outdoor water aerobics. This morning we had a breakfast potluck after class, and the lifeguard turned on the water slides for those who wanted to 'play.' Some of us had races to see who could go down the slides the fastest. Such a fun way to wrap up one of my favorite summer activies.

Soooo grateful to hubby for taking on one of my least favorite chores. Taking Lilly to the vet for her annual appointment! Poor Lilly gets so nervous, even though our vet is the kindest, gentlest man. It's always an ordeal for me (and Lilly), so I was glad to turn it over to Dan this year.

Happy Friday to all!

Everything you do always sounds so much more fun than the stuff I do! I love it all but I would have had to skip even looking at the tarantula. My father was produce buyer for a chain of grocery stores here when I was a child and he told us often about them coming in with the banana shipments in the warehouse. One ran up his trouser leg one time! And once he brought one home in a mason jar with her egg sac for us to take to school the next day but when we got up that morning she had eaten the whole sac! To protect them? Because she was hungry?

I don't like to wish time away but I will be so happy to turn the calendar page from August to September!

The community gathering sounds like a lot of fun. So does the butterfly pavilion! I'm trying not to be jealous of the coolness. It's still hot and humid here. But I know those cool breezes will be coming here eventually. The water aerobics final class sounds so enjoyable and refreshing. We don't have pets now, but my husband always did vet duty when we had them--I was so grateful. Glad you got to miss the ordeal this time.

How fun to take your grandchildren to a touch the animals place. I'd def have to skip the spider part....UGH...but i LOVE butterflies and dragonflies and yay for turtles!!

the community gathering sounds wonderful as does the breakfast potluck. What a fun way to end your swimming classes.

I love having breakfast and lunch and sometimes dinner out on the deck. We are enjoying cooler weather (60s and 70s...perfect!!) and no humidity here in eastern NY. Ive had the central air off for over 2 weeks and it's awesome to have the house windows open.

Enjoy the rest of the long weekend!!

That community gathering sounds like so much fun as well as educational. I love places like that.
Your end of summer water party sounds like fun, too.
It's Labor Day and I hope you are enjoying a relaxing afternoon and evening.

Our Todd doesn't do well at the vet either. I finally made Dave start taking him because I felt like the go between reporting back and forth between the two. I have to say I'm glad I don't have to take that job on anymore. The butterfly pavillion sounds lovely and the bravery of the kids in holding a tarantula! Yikes.
