Friday Favorites!

Wow, two posts in one day! I really wanted to try Five Minute Friday (see last post), but couldn't give up on Friday's Fave Five. So, who knows what the future will bring?

1. It's snowing!!! and I'm drinking hot chocolate and all is right with the world (sigh). The snow has been coming down all morning and looks no where near stopping, so the hot chocolate is flowing and I have books to read and cookies to bake for my hubby.

2. Yesterday, Dan worked from home -- something he's been able to do more of lately, which is really nice. It's like we're "practicing" for retirement. Someday. We went for a walk after lunch, and then I later in the day made a trip to Costco.

3. This may seem like small potatoes in some worlds, but I finally got a new reading lamp to put by my favorite chair. The floor lamp I was using has been returned to its rightful spot in the living room.  I'm loving this wall lamp, because it has a three-way bulb and it doesn't get in the way of the little table where I put my coffee/tea/hot cocoa mug.

4. A recipe showed up just at the right time yesterday. I was over at my friend Dianna's blog, and she posted a recipe for pork chops and smashed potatoes. I had all the ingredients on hand, and whipped it up for supper. So good! If you haven't visited Dianna, I'm sure you would love her blog:)

5. I downloaded a book to my Kindle this morning, the first time I've done that in ages. It is a new for me/very old book, called If You Want to Write, by Brenda Ueland. Despite the title, it speaks to anyone with a creative spirit, being art, writing, sewing, anything at all, and I love it for the spiritual connection it talks about finding in creativity.  On Kindle, it was only $1.24, so you can't beat the price.

Linking up with the Friday's Fave Five group at Susanne's today.

Happy Weekend!

Love your little reading nook! It's important to have a comfy well-lit place for reading.

I'm so glad to see Dianna back posting. I just ran across her blog today.

Enjoy your snow and hot cocoa!

I saw that recipe at Dianna's. too, and thought it looked so good! I printed it our but haven't tried it yet. I do have pork chops in the freezer, though, and potatoes in the pantry!

My husband has been working from home more the last several months, and I had that same thought - that it's getting me ready for his retirement (some day).

The right reading lamp makes a big difference. Glad you found one!

Thanks for mentioning that book - it's still at that price, so I got it!

Yay for new lamps! It really is those little things like that that makes life so special. I was like that with our new vacuum sealer Food Saver that hubby purchased last Friday.

And, Karen, thank you for mentioning my blog. That was so kind of you. I'm super glad that you and Dan enjoyed the recipe for the pork chops and smashed potatoes.

Our temperature actually rose to 30 today and the snow has currently is to pick back up tonight and snow through Sunday. So there will be plenty of hot chocolate flowing here too, my friend. xx

Your getting snow??! We still have none here in eastern New York which has made me tweak some lesson plans for my language and book group. The children really want snow to play in!

I saw the recipe too and am wondering about replacing the pork with chicken. We don't do pork or beef here anymore.

Enjoy your hot cocoa in that cozy reading corner!!

That's a nice lamp and looks like a comfy chair. Ideal for reading. Enjoy the snow and the hot chocolate. A good excuse for staying home and relaxing!

That's not "small potatoes" to have a good reading lamp that doesn't get in the way of your hot drink!! :-)

I love seeing your reading nook and getting a glimpse at your shelves--that sewing machine!!
If I had hot chocolate, knitting and a book, maybe I'd be willing to experience some snow :)
Happy new week to you!

What a sweet reading area! I like the idea of the lamp on the wall instead of the table! The snow sounds lovely. We've had hardly any this year. Just a whole lotta of insane wind! Mmmm, gonna check out Dianna's recipe.
