Summer moments

My five senses were overcome with summer this week. Many consider 4th of July to be the halfway point for summer, but to me it feels like we are just beginning to hit that sweet spot of hot days when a dip in the pool feels so good. I feel bad for kids who are already counting the weeks until school starts in mid-August, but my summer will carry through into September when temperatures just begin to start cooling down. Enough of that. Here are some favorites from the week:

When our grandkids come over, it's always a grand entrance. We are so excited to see them, and they are all smiles and outstretched arms for us. One day this week they came in after having been at the pool for the day. With her chubby arms wrapped around my neck, Brooklynn snuggled into me, all warm from the sun and smelling of sunscreen.  Nothing says summer like sun kissed babies.

George, our granddog, was over that day, too. We all adore George, a rescued greyhound who lives with Joe and Sam. He is the only dog, other than my darling Lilly, who I would even consider coming to live with me. He's polite and well-mannered, gentle as a deer, and he has the smoothest, silkiest coat. It feels like rabbit fur.

The taste of s'mores. I have so many great memories of camping with our kids all those years, and seeing my grandkids with sticky, marshmallow faces brings it all back again.

The sound of the guitar, while Sam softly picks out the softest, prettiest music.

Seeing Luke and Miranda and Siefer and Sawyer on Facetime.  Yes, I wish they could have been there, right in our backyard with the rest of us. And they missed out on the s'mores. But Facetime is the next best thing;)

oh i love how you did the FFF this week!! MMMM....i can just smell those smores!! We have only had them once thus far and it was still spring when we did! :)

We have actually only been out of school here in NYS for 2 weeks so it is definitely feeling like summer just began...which technically it did since it began June 21 just 3 days before our youngest graduated from high school :)

I love the pic of that little one smiling....a grandson I assume??

I hope you have a wonderful relaxing weekend tasting, seeing, touching, smelling and hearing all your fave things :)

I enjoyed your post. Happy summer to you.

I am a teacher in the south and we get out late May every year. About five years ago a former teacher said in passing to me, "You know it's all downhill after July 4." That has messed with my mind ever since!!! :-)

I so enjoyed reading about your Grace Moments, Karen. What a joyous celebration you and your family had over the Fourth of July! Your grandchildren are so so cute! The first picture was my all-time favorite! Loved the way you described everything through your senses.

btw...I did sign up for the writing class today. I've not had a chance to get involved with it yet, but I am looking forward to it. Thanks so much for sharing about it.

I love your grace moments! All your time with those grandchildren, in person or facetime, is so precious.
May you continue to have grace moments all weekend!

Happiness is summer for sure.
I could do without the extreme heat
though. We might be in for a "heat
wave" this week! Yuck.

Enjoy your week.
